Daniel Island is quickly becoming the top spot for living in the Charleston, SC area. Just minutes away from, always popular, Mt. Pleasant. Daniel Island is neatly positioned between the Wando and Cooper rivers. Historic Charleston is just 15 minutes away; local beaches on Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island are an easy 10 mile drive.
When you enter Daniel Island off of I-526, you soon realize that you are entering a community that has something special to offer. Situated at the entrance to the island is the states most comprehensive tennis facility. 17 courts, and a clubhouse sit on the banks of the Wando River. Daniel Island's tennis stadium is home to the Family Circle Cup, the stadium is also used for cultural events and concerts, it's truly a magnificent arena. Adjacent to the island's tennis center is the cities business district. Smooth and clean best describe the buildings here. You find everything you ever need within a small area at Daniel Island's center. A Publix grocery store , restaurants, shops, church, doctor/dentist, and a bank are just a few of the cities planned amenities. You honestly, could stay on the island year-around. The developers of this area truly thought of it all.
Moving out from the cities center area you can start to see why people from over 36 states are now calling this 4,000-acre island, home. There are over 23 miles of rivers and creeks, a community boat ramp, public and private boat docks, crabbing docks, hundreds of acres of parks, island nature preserves, walking and bicycle trails. The above doesn't paint a strong enough picture of what Daniel Island has to offer. The island has to be experienced first hand to truly appreciate its uniqueness.
Daniel Island not only offers families great amenities, but it also offers some of the areas best schools. The states largest private school Bishop England(9-12) sits on the northwest corner of the island. As of this writing the island is also gaining a public school that will handle kindergarten through 8th grade. Daniel Island is part of the Berckly county school system
The above island amenities are nice, but the true drawing card to the island is its neighborhoods. Daniel Island is home to six distinctively different neighborhoods. Daniel Island's 4,000 residents live in a variety of distinctive neighborhoods, each designed with traditional precepts in mind. Sidewalks pass by homes with porches so that neighbors can get to know one another. Bike paths connect the neighborhoods, so it's easy for everyone to get about without using a car. Daniel Island Park - Located at the north end of the island, this is Daniel Island's country club neighborhood. It features a private club, the two golf courses, gracious homes, and spectacular homesites with marsh, golf, park, and interior views. Daniel Island Park is the crown jewel of Daniel Island. The homes here are something to be seen. Their style is heavily influenced by homes/neighborhoods from the glorious 1920’s and 30’s. Wind swept oaks line the entrance to this area of Daniel Island. The neighborhood sports its own tennis, golf and swim club(The Park Club). The golf club is built by world-renowned golf course designer Tom Fazio. The plans for a second 18-hole course are in the works for this stately neighborhood. Famed golf course architect Rees Jones is slated to build the second course on Daniel Island.
Daniel Island Park still has numerous home sites that are still being developed. Tidal creeks, marsh views and deep-water lots are all part of this exiting community. A select team of award-winning national builders is handling Daniel Island Parks construction.
As of this writing, lots on Daniel Island Park start in the $100’s and new homes range from the high-$600s to in excess of $1 million.

 
Codner's Ferry Park - This is an established neighborhood of custom homes featuring creek, park, and wooded view. Codner’s Ferry Park is situated next to and slightly above Cochran Park. This neighborhood is flanked to the west by beautiful Beresford Creek. Codner’s Ferry is the first neighborhood that was developed on Daniel Island. It’s many features include a one-acre landscaped park at its center, easy access to the Scott Park pool, acres of nature preserve and quick access to Daniel Island’s city center. Many of the homes have deepwater access from private docks or the communities boat ramp. This area is truly special.
Several regional custom builders have built Codner’s Ferry homes. Ownership of this part of Daniel Island real estate begins in the high-$400s and goes up to $1 million.

 


Etiwan Park - This neighborhood is located close to town and is home to Bishop England High School and the Daniel Island academy. It features an expansive park with playing fields and an amphitheater. Daniel Island’s  most central neighborhood, Etiwan Park, is now entering completion. The highlight of Etiwan is it’s seven acre park that is owned by the City of Charleston. From the parks center you can play basketball, volleyball, and make use of a beautifully appointed picnic area. Etiwan is close to downtown and within a very short walking distance from Bishop England High School. The homes feature old-style Charleston architecture, built in books shelves, hardwood floors and spacious kitchens.
Several national builders have built Etiwan Park. Home prices start in the mid-$200’s.


 
Barfield Park - It is situated near the banks of the Wando river and has a park that meanders along the marsh. Barfield Park is located on the island’s southeastern end. Its neighborhood borders on Central Park. Barfield Park is situated the closest to Daniel Island’s city center. The neighborhood offers many amenities. A natural-style park sits on the banks of the Wando River. Wide neighborhood streets, large porches that you could sit on all day, tastefully colored houses and homes w/ great marsh views and access are just part of the enjoyment this area offers its residents.
Construction in this area began in 2000. David Weekly Homes, John Wieland, Beazer Homes and custom-builder Windsor South have been the main construction providers for this area. Homes in Barfield Park range from the $200s to the high $500s.


 
Center Park - This neighborhood of traditional single-family has a wonderful two-acre park that's been beautifully landscaped and surrounded by classic brick townhomes. Center Park is one of the island’s newer neighborhoods. The centerpiece of this area is its two-acre park, with tastefully designed play equipment. The park area is surrounded by classical brick townhomes that sport iron railed balconies and private walled gardens. Central Park also has access to a nature and wetlands walking area.
Construction in this area of Daniel Island began in spring of 2000. David Weekly Homes, John Wieland,  Beazer Homes and Wyland Homes have been the main builders of this area. Homes in Central Park start in the low $300s.

 
Cochran Park - Enjoying a marsh setting, this quiet neighborhood offers a wide variety of homes. Moving to the far northwest of Daniel Island you will find one of the newer neighborhoods, Cochran Park.   This neighborhood was built with views in mind. Many of the houses elevated settings give the resident a magnificent view of the surrounding marsh areas. Some homes even have deep-water access from the homes private docks. Other Cochran Park home amenities include Brazilian hardwood floors, gourmet kitchens and smartly done, built in bookshelves. Bellinger Island, a nature preserve, is just a short boat ride from the tip of Cochran Park.

Pierce Park - It is centrally located and close to island schools. It features a neighborhood pool and a marshfront pavilion that hosts all types of events and gatherings.
 
Smythe Park - This is the island's newest neighborhood. It features a 22-acre park with an 11-acre lake as its recreational centerpiece. Construction on the first homes began this year.
